Danbury win major award for the Ford Transit Fun!
17 December 2015
The Danbury Ford Transit Fun has been named the Campervan of the Year 2016 by MMM, the UK’s best-selling motorcaravan magazine, and Which Motorhome, the UK’s number one magazine for motorhome testing, at their prestigious 2016 awards.
The National Motorhome Awards 2016 are now in their twelfth year and for the fifth year running MMM has joined forces with Which Motorhome, with one set of combined awards which recognise the best new campervans and motorhomes on sale in the UK. The awards are in association with the Caravan Club and were held at The Ritz, London on Monday 7th December, with dealers and manufacturers from the motorhome industry present.
Expert and experienced judges from the UK’s best-selling motorhome magazine, MMM, and Which Motorhome looked at all the models new to the UK market or that have undergone significant design specification upgrades. To select a winner, the judges considered the functionality of the layout, the build quality and overall usability, as well as how the ‘van performs on the road and on the campsite, right through to whether it offers value for money.
The Danbury Ford Transit Fun
is a great example and impressed the judges from MMM and Which Motorhome magazines because it is a great take on the classic camper layout. Its kitchen unit is mounted crosswise, behind the driver’s seat, allowing a wider rear seat (with three seatbelts), which also makes a roomy bed. And that’s not all, as the seat-to-bed mechanism is electrically operated. Another plus point is simply excellent value for money.
Head of the judging panel and editor of Which Motorhome, Peter Vaughan, commented: “The Ford Transit Custom is a good-value alternative to the VW in this marketplace, while Danbury’s Fun conversion mixes modern design with some neat details.”
While Daniel Attwood, Managing Editor of MMM and Which Motorhome, said “A great design from a Great British company. Danbury has made its name with VW campers but this new Fun proves it can also produce excellent campervans on the superb Ford Transit Custom.”
MMM recognises that the smaller the vehicle, the more compromises there are. The best campers offer acceptable levels of storage, comfort and practicality, but the judges are looking for a winner that goes that extra step and offers great on-site characteristics in a superb design that works perfectly in a compact area. Often these campervans double up as an everyday vehicle, so the judges also assessed the campervans’ on-road characteristics, seating capacity and driver and passenger comfort and safety.
